The music program begins with the very basics: counting beats, and builds from there to reading notes and interpreting them through clapping and drumming. This secures a strong foundation for rounds-singing, which, when combined with beat boxing, aligns with the interests of the students in popular musical culture.
Students have been afforded the opportunity to conduct each other.
The Music curriculum has been designed by a classically-trained musician with an extensive background in teaching and working with underprivileged youth. Once they have built a small repertoire, the group will perform for their peers, and ultimately, will travel to local establishments catering to the old and infirm, to entertain their less fortunate neighbors.
